I think it's probably a species of rhyming slang off "Yanks", there's some meager amount of support for this version (e.g. search for yanks on this page).

An alternative explanation I managed to scrape from the urban dictionary: "a euphemistic stereotype for Americans who spill forth verbal filth like a sewage plant."
